Glue Man Vintage & Records Opens in Bourbonnais, Blending Retro Style with Community Spirit

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — A new addition to Bourbonnais’ retail scene has arrived with the opening of Glue Man Vintage & Records, a boutique offering a curated selection of vintage clothing, music, and nostalgic collectibles. The store officially opened its doors on May 16 at 616 S. Main St., in the former Quilt Shop location within the now-closed B&J Sewing Center.

The shop, nestled between El Burrito Loco and Subway, is co-owned by Kankakee residents James LeRoy and Jessi Bosie, a couple engaged to be married. LeRoy, 19, is a 2024 graduate of Grace Christian Academy and an active figure in the local arts community, having previously helped launch the Kankakee Arts CoLab, where he continues to book live music performances.

LeRoy’s passion for vintage fashion and music is central to the store’s identity. Beyond offering apparel, the store is designed to function as a welcoming social space. Plans are underway to host music events and themed gatherings such as card game nights, reinforcing the store’s mission to serve as a “third place” — a community hub for those seeking connection beyond home and work.

“I love vintage clothing. That’s a passion of mine,” LeRoy said. “We’re really trying to create a space where everyone feels welcome — especially people who don’t have anywhere else to go.”

The store’s interior reflects that philosophy, featuring vibrant decor, a pingpong table, and a Nintendo Wii, creating an inviting, nostalgic atmosphere. In addition to clothing, the inventory includes comic books, CDs, and other retro items that tap into collective memories and pop culture.

LeRoy and Bosie began seriously exploring the idea of opening a store in late 2024. Prior to establishing a brick-and-mortar location, LeRoy sold vintage goods at markets and festivals across Illinois and neighboring states. His sourcing strategy involves a mix of direct purchases from individuals, as well as finds from the Goodwill Outlet, garage sales, and estate sales.

“That in itself is a full-time job,” LeRoy noted, citing the challenge of finding pieces that align with current trends and his own sense of style.

Glue Man Vintage & Records is open daily from noon to 7 p.m., with the exception of Tuesdays, when the store is closed.
