MOPA, Goa – An 86-year-old Portuguese national was booked on Tuesday after an antique firearm was discovered in his luggage during a routine security check at Mopa International Airport.
The accused, identified as Jawaharlal Caramchand, was scheduled to board Air India flight A1145 to London, occupying seat 22G. The incident occurred around 11:35 a.m., when airport security personnel detected an antique pistol, identified as a “Perfecta Model ‘S’ Made in Germany,” in a suitcase tagged with number 0098844990.
According to a formal complaint filed at 4:18 p.m. by Prathamesh Ramakant Halarnkar, Shift Incharge for Inline Screening & Security at Mopa International Airport, Caramchand was unable to produce a valid firearm license or any authorization permitting possession of the weapon.
Following the discovery, Mopa Airport Police registered an offence under Crime No. 21/2025, citing violations under Section 3 read with Section 25 of the Arms Act. A First Information Report (FIR) has been forwarded to the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) in Pernem, along with notifications to other relevant authorities.
The case is currently under investigation by PSI Sagar Vazarkar of the Mopa Airport Police Station.
