Rendells Auctioneers will host its upcoming two-day sale at Stonepark, Ashburton, on 19 and 20 June, featuring a diverse catalogue of items across several specialist and general categories.
Of particular note is a dedicated section for postcards, stamps, and ephemera—offering collectors a focused opportunity to acquire rare and unique historical items. Alongside this, the auction will include the usual broad range of entries across furniture, clocks and barometers, miscellanea and collectables, ceramics, and paintings.
The furniture selection promises a wide array of items, from chests of drawers, wardrobes, and various table styles to open shelf units and an extensive assortment of chairs. Notable highlights include Lot 404, an antique high wheelback Windsor elbow chair crafted from stained mixed wood; Lot 325, a 19th-century stained mixed wood apothecary’s chest; and Lot 208, an antique French sideboard with a later blue painted finish.
The Miscellanea and Collectables section remains a perennial draw, offering an eclectic mix for all interests. Among the standout items are a vintage GWR enamelled “Windsor & Eton” railway station sign, two amethyst geode rock samples, an antique walnut travelling dressing box with fitted interior and contents, and an antique apothecary stand by Maw Son & Sons, partially filled with later contents. Additional lots include a large mid-20th-century wooden model of a Chinese junk, various lamps, telescopes, microscopes, and other curiosities.
In the Pictures & Paintings category, Lot 1599 features a gilt-framed lithograph by František Kupka titled Le Cirque Blanc. Other noteworthy entries include The Striped Vase, a 1956 still life oil on board by Cornish artist Marion Grace Hocken; Dittisham, The Dart, Devon, an oil on board by Martin Dutton in a silvered frame; and October, an unframed coloured woodcut by Sylvan G. Boxius. The section also includes a wide variety of watercolours, prints, and oil paintings.
Public viewing will be held on Tuesday, 17 June, from 10:00 to 19:00, and Wednesday, 18 June, from 10:00 to 17:00. The auction will commence at 10:00 on both sale days.
