Bang & Olufsen and Saint Laurent Unveil $35,000 Limited-Edition Turntable

by Cecily

Bang & Olufsen, the renowned Danish audio brand, has teamed up once again with French fashion house Saint Laurent for a highly exclusive collaboration. This time, the two industry icons have reimagined a classic: the Beogram 4000c turntable.

A Nod to History

Originally released in 1972 and discontinued two years later, the Beogram 4000 was ahead of its time. It stood out not only for its exceptional audiophile quality but also for its innovative tangential tonearm, which was fully automated and remained perpendicular as it moved inward during playback. Its iconic mid-century design made it a standout in both form and function.

The new Beogram 4000c (Saint Laurent Rive Droite Edition) brings the vintage design into the present, combining the original aesthetic with modern enhancements. Bang & Olufsen and Saint Laurent have taken ten original Beogram 4000 models and restored them, improving both their internal and external components to suit contemporary use.

Craftsmanship and Design

The limited-edition turntables preserve the classic look of the 1970s version but feature updates such as hand-crafted ziricote wood frames and refined aluminum details. Each unit is individually numbered and encased in a matching wooden box, reflecting the bespoke craftsmanship of both brands.

Modern Sound and Features

Though the design retains much of its heritage, the sound quality has received a substantial upgrade. Bang & Olufsen has refurbished and restored the internal components at its Denmark headquarters. The turntable still uses the signature tangential-tracking tonearm but has been fitted with a new cartridge and a built-in preamplifier for enhanced audio performance. The Beogram 4000c is capable of playing both 33⅓ and 45rpm vinyl records.

Exclusivity at a Premium Price

However, securing one of these rare turntables will be no easy feat. Only ten units of the Beogram 4000c (Saint Laurent Rive Droite Edition) have been produced, making them an exceedingly rare collector’s item.

The price for this luxury turntable is set at $35,000, accessible only to the most discerning audiophiles and collectors. For those eager to add this piece to their collection, the turntables are available exclusively at Saint Laurent stores in Paris and Los Angeles or can be ordered through the brand’s website.

In combining high-end audio engineering with luxury fashion, Bang & Olufsen and Saint Laurent’s latest collaboration is set to make waves in both the worlds of music and design.
