TASGA to Host Spring “TASGA de Mayo” Celebration in Choteau

by Cecily

The Teton Antique Steam and Gas Threshing Association (TASGA) will host its annual spring gathering, “TASGA de Mayo,” on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The family-friendly event will feature a festive “south of the border” theme in celebration of Cinco de Mayo, with a focus on Mexican cuisine and cultural activities. Admission to the event is free, with food and entertainment provided on a free-will donation basis.

TASGA members are inviting the public to join them in welcoming spring, which marks the beginning of the farming, ranching, and construction seasons. In addition to enjoying delicious food, attendees can participate in fun activities such as roasting marshmallows over fire pits, playing children’s games, and enjoying live music. The entertainment will be provided by Badger Creek, a local band known for their acoustic country and folk music.

Guests are encouraged to bring their own comfortable seating, as available seating will be limited. The event will take place at the TASGA facility, located at 121 3rd Avenue Southeast in Choteau, next to The Teton Weatherbeater and south of Choteau City Park. Directional signs will be posted to guide attendees to the location.

The event also serves as an opportunity for TASGA to engage with the community and encourage new membership. The association welcomes people of all ages to join in preserving the history of the region. Membership is open to anyone willing to contribute to the preservation efforts, with no specific qualifications required. TASGA members will be available at the event to provide information and answer any questions about the association’s work.

Funds raised during the event will support the restoration of TASGA’s vintage equipment and historic structures. The association’s facility houses a range of antique machinery and vehicles used in farming, ranching, lumber processing, and construction. Visitors can also explore a collection of restored vintage buildings, including a train depot, blacksmith shop, homestead house, schoolhouse, chapel, and print shop. These structures are maintained by TASGA members and serve as educational resources for the public.

Although the “TASGA de Mayo” event will not feature the full range of displays found at the September Threshing Bee, which is held annually on the third weekend of September, it offers a great opportunity to explore the facility and plan a visit during the fall event. The Threshing Bee showcases a variety of historical equipment and structures, with live demonstrations of restored machinery in operation.
