A rare early 20th-century Louis Vuitton travelling trunk emerged as the standout lot at Rendells’ March auction, fetching an impressive £5,200 under the hammer. The 59cm wood and brass-bound trunk, featuring an all-over monogrammed stencilled canvas finish and leather strap handles set on casters, significantly outperformed its pre-sale estimate of £1,500-£2,500.
The auction, which featured 1,711 lots, included the bi-monthly sections of jewellery, silver and silver plate, alongside antique and retro furniture, ceramics, clocks, collectables, rugs, and artwork.
Strong bidding was seen across multiple categories, with silver achieving a 100% clearance rate. The jewellery section also performed exceptionally well, highlighted by a 9ct gold charm bracelet that sold for £920, a butterscotch amber graduated bead necklace fetching £1,400, and an 18ct white metal five-stone diamond ring securing £1,050. Several other jewellery items and watches also attained strong prices.
Rendells’ next auction, scheduled for April 24 and 25, will feature specialist sections dedicated to postcards, stamps, ephemera, and books.
