Ewbank’s Auction House is set to hold a dual auction event on Thursday, May 1, showcasing a wide variety of collectible items. The day’s proceedings will kick off at 9:30 AM with the Interiors and Modern Design Auction, followed by the 20th Century Modern British and Contemporary Art Auction at 2:00 PM.
The morning auction will feature a selection of stylish and functional furniture, modern design pieces, decorative arts, and lighting solutions, all curated for contemporary living spaces. A standout piece is a limited edition ‘Carp’ design vase by renowned British ceramist Sally Tuffin for Moorcroft. This prestigious vase, depicting carp amidst aquatic leaves on a serene celadon base, is estimated to fetch between £1,000 and £1,500.
In addition, a Tiffany Studios New York desk set from circa 1915 will be on offer. The set, decorated in the iconic ‘Grapevine’ pattern, includes a three-tier letter rack, an inkwell, a blotter, a seal, and more, all crafted in bronzed metal with vibrant opaque glass. This elegant desk set is valued between £800 and £1,200.
Another notable item in the sale is a St Agnes bronze figure by British sculptor Richard Louis Garbe, dating from around 1925, with an estimated price of £300 to £500.
The afternoon auction will present a diverse range of paintings, sculptures, prints, and drawings, featuring works from prominent artists of the 20th century and beyond. A key highlight is Hades Hades Hades, a signed screen print by British artist Tracey Emin. Known for her raw, autobiographical style, this piece is expected to sell for £400 to £600.
Also in the afternoon session is a captivating ceramic sculpture by British artist Sean Henry, depicting a mermaid emerging from the waves to rescue a shipwrecked fisherman. The intricately detailed work, valued between £1,000 and £2,000, is a notable example of Henry’s distinctive figurative style.
A watercolour by Sir William Russell Flint, titled Winter Sports in the Engadine, will also be available. Known for his fluid watercolour technique, Flint’s depiction of a winter landscape in the Swiss Engadine region is expected to fetch £600 to £1,000.
Viewing for both auctions will be open from Monday, April 28, continuing daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM until the day of the sale.
