Martha Stewart Offers Glimpse Inside Her Stylish “Tiny Apartment” Featuring Rare Antique Mirror

by Cecily

Martha Stewart has unveiled a rare look inside her so-called “tiny apartment,” showcasing an impeccably designed space that blends classical elements with elegant personal touches.

On May 1, the media mogul shared a series of images on Instagram, highlighting the opulent interiors of one of her smaller residences. In the post, Stewart noted that she originally envisioned the space as resembling a “mother-in-law’s apartment in the back of the palazzo,” a request she made during the design phase years ago. “It turned out very well,” she wrote, adding that she often takes photos in the space before heading out for evening events.

The apartment’s interior design reveals a sophisticated interplay of textures and historic elements. Terracotta, marble-inspired floor tiles provide rich depth, while the high ceiling is accented with traditional crown molding. A prominent stone fireplace serves as a visual centerpiece, adding a stately ambiance to the room.

One of the most striking features is a vintage-style Girandole mirror mounted against the white wall. The ornate mirror commands attention with its bold presence and historic design. Similar mirrors are featured in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, where they are described as characteristic of the Federal period. Often adorned with eagle finials and candle arms, Girandole mirrors were designed to reflect candlelight throughout a room via a convex glass surface.

According to The Met, such mirrors—like one dated to 1817 and possibly originating from Albany or New York City—were crafted using gilded gesso, pine, and mirror glass, and can reach heights of over 50 inches. Stewart’s piece, while likely unique, resembles these museum-quality antiques. Comparable versions are currently listed on high-end decor platforms such as Chairish and 1stDibs for over $20,000.

Stewart’s Instagram followers praised the room’s classic elegance and decorative choices. “That mirror is what antique dreams are made of!” one commenter wrote. Others applauded the overall execution, with remarks like, “Beautifully executed!!! LOVE!!” and “Wow that mantel is spectacular! Second only to you!”

In addition to the decor, fans took notice of Stewart’s attire in the photo—particularly a pair of striking gold slacks. One follower inquired, “Who is the designer of the GOLD SLACKS??? The fabric and cut look wonderful.”

While genuine Girandole mirrors come with a premium price tag, more accessible replicas are available on platforms like eBay and Etsy, offering fans a chance to capture a bit of Stewart’s signature style.
